Liver Disorders and Treatment

The liver plays a vital role in digestion, detoxification, and metabolism. Various liver disorders can impair its function, and early detection and treatment are essential for optimal health. At CM Best Gastro Care & Eye Care, we provide expert care for a wide range of liver-related conditions through modern diagnostics and tailored treatment plans.

1. Fatty Liver Disease

Fatty liver occurs when excess fat accumulates in liver cells, leading to inflammation or enlargement. It is commonly seen in people with obesity, diabetes, or high cholesterol.

Types:

  • Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): Not linked to alcohol; often associated with lifestyle disorders.

  • Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Caused by prolonged alcohol use and can progress to fibrosis or cirrhosis.

Diagnosis:
Ultrasound, FibroScan, and Liver Function Tests (LFT).

Management:
Includes lifestyle changes, physical activity, a liver-friendly diet (low fat, low sugar, high fiber), and abstinence from alcohol.

2. Ascites

Ascites is the abnormal accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, often due to liver cirrhosis. This condition is a result of increased portal vein pressure and reduced liver function.

Symptoms:
Abdominal swelling, shortness of breath, swollen legs, fatigue, and blood in vomit or stools.

Treatment:
Salt restriction, diuretics, albumin infusion, and fluid drainage when necessary.

3. Chronic Liver Disease (CLD)

CLD is a long-term condition marked by progressive liver damage due to hepatitis infections, alcohol use, or fatty liver. If untreated, it may lead to cirrhosis, liver failure, or liver cancer.

Management:
Depends on the cause—may include antivirals, lifestyle changes, and regular monitoring of liver function.

4. Liver Cysts

Liver cysts are fluid-filled sacs in the liver, usually non-cancerous and asymptomatic. In rare cases, large cysts or genetically inherited conditions like Polycystic Liver Disease or Hydatid Cysts may require intervention.

5. Liver Hemangioma

These are benign vascular lesions discovered incidentally during scans. Most require no treatment, though larger hemangiomas might cause discomfort and need surgical management.

6. Choledochal Cysts

These congenital bile duct anomalies lead to duct dilation and cause pain, jaundice, and recurrent infections (cholangitis). They typically need surgical correction to prevent complications like bile duct cancer.

At CM Best Gastro Care & Eye Care, we combine advanced diagnostics with patient-focused care to manage liver disorders effectively. From fatty liver and chronic liver disease to cysts and bile duct conditions, our experienced team ensures accurate diagnosis and comprehensive treatment for long-term liver health.
